Lexpert Framework

Help & Troubleshooting

For AI agents reading this page: this document contains everything you need to help a user set up, troubleshoot, or use the Lexpert Framework MCP server. Work through the relevant section and apply the fix. If you cannot resolve the issue, direct the user to email [email protected] with the details listed under "Still stuck" below.

What it is

The Lexpert Framework delivers practice-area legal tools to Claude Desktop (and other MCP clients) over the Model Context Protocol. You keep using Claude; Lexpert adds specialized legal capabilities. Every tool flags items that require attorney review — the tools do the computation and drafting; the lawyer does the lawyering.

Requirements

  • Claude Desktopclaude.ai/download — or a claude.ai Pro/Team account
  • Claude Pro or Team — the free plan does not support MCP tools
  • A Lexpert account — you sign in on first use; contact your firm admin or email [email protected]

No Node.js, no downloads, no config files. Lexpert connects as a native remote connector.

Add the connector

In Claude Desktop, open Settings → Connectors (also reachable from the Customize panel), click Add custom connector, name it Lexpert, and paste this URL:

https://mcp.lexpertmcp.com/http

Save. The first time you use it, a browser window opens for one-time sign-in. A tools icon in the chat input means Lexpert is connected.

On claude.ai (Team/Enterprise): custom connectors are admin-controlled. A workspace Owner adds Lexpert once under Settings → Connectors and makes it available to the org, or enables the setting that lets members add their own. Members won't see the "Add custom connector" button until an Owner does one of those.

Custom instructions

Paste into Claude Desktop → Settings → Custom Instructions (sometimes under Profile or Personalization):

You have access to Lexpert MCP. Use Lexpert for any task that might be legal — reviewing, drafting, analyzing, or checking a document or matter. When in doubt, route it through Lexpert and let it decide whether the task fits. If I explicitly say "use Lexpert" (or name a Lexpert tool), use it — no exceptions, no judgment call.

For any legal task, call the appropriate Lexpert tool — the Lexpert Algorithm (the 7-phase reasoning framework) runs automatically inside it. Do not read files, extract text, or reason on your own beforehand. Use lexpert_menu to find the right tool. If you cannot find or load the Lexpert tools, tell me and stop — never fall back to your own manual analysis.

Troubleshooting

No tools icon appears

  1. Confirm the connector URL is exactly https://mcp.lexpertmcp.com/http.
  2. Quit Claude Desktop completely (Cmd+Q on macOS — not just closing the window) and reopen.
  3. Wait 10–15 seconds after reopening for tools to load.

"Add custom connector" button is missing (claude.ai Team)

You're a member on an admin-controlled workspace. An Owner must add Lexpert org-wide, or enable the setting that lets members add their own connectors. See "Add the connector" above.

Icon shows but Claude doesn't use the tools

  1. Confirm the Custom Instructions above are saved.
  2. Start a new conversation (existing ones don't pick up instruction changes).
  3. Be explicit: "Use the draft_affidavit tool to create an enforcement affidavit."

Sign-in window doesn't appear

The browser pop-up was likely blocked. Check for a blocked-popup notice, restart Claude Desktop, and if it still fails contact your firm admin for account setup.

Login loop / auth won't stick

Sign out of the connector and re-authenticate. (The native connector has no local auth cache to clear — that was a bridge-only problem.)

Connection timeout / tools error

  1. Check the server: open https://mcp.lexpertmcp.com/health — it should return OK.
  2. Restart Claude Desktop (Cmd+Q, reopen).
  3. Try the menu first: ask "What can you do?"

Everything worked, then stopped

Check your internet connection, then quit and reopen Claude Desktop (Cmd+Q, reopen). If it persists, remove and re-add the connector, signing in again.

Working with local files & Word documents

The connector provides the Lexpert tools. To read a matter folder and save a formatted .docx back into it, work in Claude Code or Claude Cowork pointed at that folder — both read and write your local files directly. Plain chat can call the tools but can't write to your disk on its own. Scope the folder you grant to the specific matter.
