Lexpert Framework

Install Lexpert Framework

Adding Lexpert takes one step now. Paste a connector URL into Claude — no download, no Node.js, no config files to edit. Because there's no local bridge to run, there's nothing to break between sessions.

Add this custom connector in Claude:
https://mcp.lexpertmcp.com/http

Install steps

  1. Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Connectors (also reachable from the Customize panel)
  2. Click Add custom connector, name it Lexpert, and paste the URL above
  3. Save. The first time you use it, a browser opens for one-time sign-in with your Lexpert account
  4. You'll see the tools icon in the chat input. Paste the Custom Instructions (below) so Claude knows to reach for Lexpert

Using Lexpert on claude.ai (Team plan)

On a Team or Enterprise workspace, custom connectors are admin-controlled. A workspace Owner adds Lexpert once under Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector (same URL) and makes it available to the org — or enables the setting that lets members add their own. Regular members won't see the "Add custom connector" button until an Owner does one of those. Everyone still signs in individually on first use.

Set Custom Instructions

The installer already copied these to your clipboard. In Claude Desktop, click your profile (bottom-left) → Settings → find Custom Instructions (sometimes under Profile or Personalization), and paste:

You have access to Lexpert MCP. Use Lexpert for any task that might be legal — reviewing, drafting, analyzing, or checking a document or matter. When in doubt, route it through Lexpert and let it decide whether the task fits. If I explicitly say "use Lexpert" (or name a Lexpert tool), use it — no exceptions, no judgment call.

For any legal task, call the appropriate Lexpert tool — the Lexpert Algorithm (the 7-phase reasoning framework) runs automatically inside it. Do not read files, extract text, or reason on your own beforehand. Use lexpert_menu to find the right tool. If you cannot find or load the Lexpert tools, tell me and stop — never fall back to your own manual analysis.

The Lexpert Algorithm (the visible 7-phase reasoning loop), citation checks, formatting, and tool behavior are built into the server — the Algorithm isn't a separate tool, it runs inside every tool. These instructions route legal work into Lexpert, force a tool call instead of manual reasoning, and tell Claude to stop and tell you (rather than quietly reason on its own) if it can't find the tools. If Claude says it can't find the tools, that's a connection problem — confirm the extension is enabled — not an instruction problem.

Working with local files & Word documents

The connector gives you the Lexpert tools. If your work ends as a Word document saved into a matter folder, work inside Claude Code or Claude Cowork and point it at that folder — both can read your files and save a formatted .docx straight back into it. Plain chat can call the tools but can't write to your local disk on its own. Scope the folder you grant to the specific matter you're working on.

Requirements

  • Claude Desktop (claude.ai/download) or a claude.ai Pro/Team account
  • An active Lexpert account — you sign in on first use (Trusler Legal team members are covered automatically)
  • No Node.js, no downloads, no config files for the connector

Trouble connecting?

Double-check the connector URL is exactly https://mcp.lexpertmcp.com/http, then restart Claude Desktop (⌘Q, reopen). On a Team plan, if you don't see Add custom connector at all, you're a member and an Owner needs to enable it (see above). If sign-in stalls or the tools don't appear, reach support with your Claude version and any error message.
